Product Description

Did you know that ginger can prevent migraines and that coffee sometimes cures them? Did you know that rice can calm your digestion, that sugar can make you more sensitive to pain, that evening primrose can ease the symptoms of arthritis?        Drawing on new and little-known research from prestigious medical centers around the world, Neal Barnard, M.D., author of Eat Right, Live Longer and Food for Life, shows readers how they can soothe everyday ailments and cure chronic pain by using common foods, traditional supplements, and herbs.        Dr. Barnard reveals which foods regularly contribute to pain and how to avoid them. He guides the reader to specific pain-safe foods that are high in nutrition but don't upset the body's natural balance, as well as foods that actively soothe pain by improving blood circulation, relieving inflammation, and balancing hormones. Complete with delicious recipes, Foods That Fight Pain is a revolutionary approach to healing that will transform your life.

I have always enjoyed anything Dr. Barnard has written. This book is filled with information about various health issues people may have (Diabetes, HB pressure, Carpal Tunnel, Herpes, IBS, Migraines and on and on.) I was surprised to learn that a lot of the "trigger foods" actually trigger more than one issue. So, there is some repetition in the chapters which address each issue. I went on the elimination eating plan (lost 6 lbs) to clean out my system and then put in one item at a time as directed to see if I could discover which food could be a culprit. I must say, I was not prepared for how different I felt, even though I was already eating a vegetarian diet as well as gluten, sugar, and dairy free. I was freed of issues I had experienced all my life. I am a firm believer that healthy whole foods will protect our bodies from disease and help us maintain good health. This book assists in ascertaining which foods, that we thought were healthy, may actually be contributing to health issues for us. I definitely recommend the book with the caveat that the recipes and food menus in the back are ridiculous. Be sure to incorporate the borage and flax oils and Vit. E once you remove the fish and animal proteins and all oils, otherwise you will feel really dry lips and skin.
